Frequently Asked Questions

What can you repair?

Unfortunately, we can't repair cracked discs or discs where the data layer has been compromised.

What type of discs can you repair?

We repair any type of compact disc, DVD or Game disc!.

What if my disc doesn't work when I get it back?

We will do our best to fix your disc however, if for some reason your disc doesn't work email us! You can also mail it to us or request a mailer and we will try it again. If we can't fix it we will give you your money back!

How does Discmender repair the discs?

We carry out the repair process with high-speed automated precision equipment that uses material specifically tested and proven effective on CD, DVDs, and game discs. The severity of the damage on the disc will determine the level of repair needed. We inspect each disc to ascertain the severity of damage and repair it using the appropriate number of refinishing stages. If the disc is badly damaged with deep scratches it will go through several refinishing stages and one polish cycle. The polish cycle gives your disc the brilliant shiny look allowing for optical clarity needed for uninterrupted laser detection.

Can every disc be repaired?

Unfortunately not all discs can be repaired although a large majority can be fixed. For instance, cracked discs cannot be repaired - Cracks sometimes look like scratches, but cannot be fixed. Hold the disc up to a bright light, with the shiny silver surface facing you. If any patches of light show through, then the data has been damaged and cannot be repaired.

Follow the guidelines above and they will help you get the best possible results from your repaired disc. There is no process that can restore damaged or missing encoding from the label side, therefore it is important to screen your discs carefully before sending them in for repair. If you are unsure about severity of the scratches, you may send them in for assessment. After we have examined the discs we will contact you with a verdict. If your disc is beyond repair we will only charge for the return delivery and refund the remainder.

Will the disc be restored 100%?

The only side that can be repaired is the mirror side of the disc. Discmender will repair the disc to "virtually brand new condition". The original polished appearance will be restored. Residual virtually undetectable hairline scratches may remain. Any damage done to the top or label side cannot be repaired.

What about deep gouges, chips, or cracks?

Some scratches are so deep we consider them a gouge. Some gouges may be so deep that they actually reach the data foil. Although most gouges can be removed, we will not risk ruining the data foil. When this occurs the resurfacing process is stopped and a light scratch will remain. This light scratch may or may not affect the play of the disc. When chips are present they are most likely on the edge of the disc and cannot be repaired. Cracks cannot be repaired.

Does a perfectly resurfaced disc guarantee it will play?

It guaranrees it 99% of the time. However there can be a number of reasons other than a scratch on the play-side that is preventing your disc from playing. Your data foil may have top damage, a manufacturer defect, or some other anomaly.

Can I carry out a repair myself?

There are other methods available for repairing discs but, we highly recommend using a professional service. It is safer, cheaper, less messy and more convenient to use a service like discmender.

Our money back Guarantee.

If your disc fails to work perfectly after repair we will give you a full refund. We can not repair scratches or any kind of damage to the label side of the Disc.

I don't want to use PayPal. Can I send a cheque?

Yes! Please make cheques payable to 'Axel Holdings'. You can send the cheque with the disc.

What are you waiting for? Mail in your discs now!

Frequently asked questions about D_Skin...

Q: How does d_skin® work?
A:
d_skin’s patented film and outer–ring technology are breakthroughs in disc protection. The ultra–thin Skin® forms a protective barrier on the readable side of your discs to prevent scratches.

Q: Did you say this stays on while you play your disc?
A:
Yes! The Skin® is so thin that your discs can be read right through it. No distortion, no skipping, no problems.

Q: Does it affect the way a disc plays?
A:
No. Discs store data digitally and the laser–transparent film of d_skin® does not alter the quality. Digital information is either on or off, the quality remains perfect, just as it was recorded.

Q: Can a d_skin® get scratched? If so, what then?
A:
Yes, the d_skin® film itself can get scratched, but the beauty is, your disc has been protected. Just toss the scratched Skin and snap on a fresh one. Your entertainment survives!

Q: What products will the d_skin® Protective Disc Skins® work on?
A:
d_skin® Protective Disc Skins® work on PlayStation®, Xbox®, Nintendo, computer games, DVD’s, music CD’s and data CD’s.

Q: How do you apply a d_skin® Protective Disc Skin®?
A
: First, clean any surface dust and marks from your game. Place the edge of the disc under one or two snaps with the readable side (shiny side without the label) against the d_skin® Protective Disc Skin®. Proceed to snap the rest of the tabs on around the disc ensuring all 8 tabs are snapped securely in place.

Q: I’ve put it on my disc and it now my disc doesn’t work, then what?
A:
Remove the Skin® and clean your disc. Replace the Skin® and ensure that all the tabs are securely in place.

Q: Can you reuse the d_skin® Protective Disc Skin®.
A:
The d_skin® Protective Disc Skins® are made to be left on discs at all times and are designed for single application. You can take them off, however taking them on and off repeatedly may result in breakage of the Skin®. If the Skin® gets scratched, simply unsnap each tap to remove it from the disc and replace with a new one.

Q: I’ve heard that scratching the top is what destroys a disc?
A:
That is correct, scratching the top of a disc will destroy it. However, the top of discs are much more difficult to scratch because of the labels that are already on the discs. It is much easier and much more common to scratch the readable side of the disc. d_skin® Protective Disc Skins® are the only way to prevent scratches to the readable side.

Q: Ever wonder how a disc works? Here's the science behind it.
A:
Much like the human body a disc has several layers or “skins” that perform vital functions to operate properly. Disc’s actually have five distinct layers that allow them to play. d_skin® Protective Game Skins® ultra–thin laser transparent Skin® acts as another layer of protection giving you a first line of defense against scratches. A disc player's laser beam enters the disc on the play side (bottom, shiny side). It travels through the first layer of clear plastic that provides protection from scratches “yeah right.” This clear plastic actually makes up the bulk of the weight and depth of a disc. The laser then passes through the data layer and reads the information on the disc. The beam then bounces off the reflective layer, travels back through the clear plastic layer and into the player where it is converted into data and sound.

Q: But wait, that was only 3 layers. I thought you said there were 5?
A:
You were actually paying attention? Fantastic! Ok, the other two layers the laser never touches. There is a protective skin behind the reflective layer and then the final layer allows a label to be printed on it. Happy now?

Q: Mostly. So tell me again about d_skin®?
A:
d_skin® Protective Disc Skins® provide a protective layer around your disc to prevent scratches even while playing. Snaps On. Play On®. Always On. It's that simple. End Disc Death.
